A National Guard soldier patrolling in Postal 2.

The National Guard are a type of law enforcement in Postal 2 and its expansion, Apocalypse Weekend.

Postal 2Edit

The National Guard are deployed into Paradise on Thursday along with SWAT Teams to assist the Police on catching a "serial killer on the run". They wear woodland BDUs with PASGT helmets and are armed with Machine Guns, and usually patrol neighborhoods with their weapons drawn. If a National Guard soldier is attacked, others in the area will run over to assist, which can be deadly unless the player is heavily armed. Ironically, National Guard soldiers aren't as skilled or powerful as SWAT (unlike SWAT, they are not equipped with body armor), however they still pack a punch and are much tougher than any generic enemy. Unlike other law enforcement units in the game, National Guard soldiers do not attempt to arrest Postal Dude, and simply shoot him if they catch him committing a crime.

Apocalypse WeekendEdit

Following the Apocalypse which started on Friday evening, the National Guard remained in Paradise throughout the weekend. They still have the same traits and armaments as they did in Postal 2. They first arrive to Lower Paradise to fight some zombies. After the Postal Dude enters the the Terrorist Training Camp to get a nuclear bomb to destroy Bullfish Interactive, he is arrested on his way out by the National Guard and imprisoned in the Military Base. The Postal Dude gets out of his cell, but must fight a large group of soldiers on his way out of the base. After the Postal Dude escapes the base, a terrorist leads a meeting attended by other terrorists, Vegetarians and Gary Coleman, claiming they are oppressed, and the begin a battle against the National Guard and the Postal Dude. More soldiers are spotted at Bullfish Interactive, which has been invaded by zombies as well. The National Guard finally appears in The Bridge, directly attacking the Postal Dude as soon as a soldier meets him, with some jets even bombing the bridge itself.

In Apocalypse Weekend, the National Guard's helmets render them immune to headshots from the sledgehammer, and they are able to block frontal machete attacks with their rifle. This same feature applies in A Week in Paradise during the whole week.

Eternal DamnationEdit

The National Guard makes a brief appearance in the third party mod Eternal Damnation. Following the zombie outbreak in Hasselridge, the National Guard arrives to the Carnival and a jet starts bombing the cemetery behind the main festival. However, the National Guard later focuses on attacking John Murray instead. They are not seen in any other area of Hasselridge after that. The soldiers share some of the traits of their Postal 2 counterparts, but they do not wear helmets and lens, and instead use Kevlar Vests.

  • If harmed enough but not killed, the soldiers will drop their weapons and will cowardly flee a fight against the Postal Dude or any other armed NPC.
  • Every National Guard soldier has the name "BreakYou" or "McJarhead" written on their shirt pockets. "Jarhead" is a slang term for a US soldier due to the haircuts they sport, resembling the top of a jar.
  • If a sledgehammer is brought down on a soldier's head, they will remain unharmed, as their helmet offers protection. However, they will be stunned momentarily and unable to move or attack.
  • If you burn a member of the national guard so that he is writhing on the ground and then hit him with a sledgehammer he will do the normal animation that corresponds to the sledgehammer bouncing off of his helmet and then he will attack the player as if he wasn't burnt.
  • A group of friendly National Guard soldiers can be found held captive inside Tora Bora. If released, they will be non-hostile towards the player and will assist in fighting the al-Qaeda terrorists populating the level.
  • They can be seen properly employing trigger discipline while moving around.
